“I love the way my body feels when I eat plant-based” are the exact words spoken by one of my female clients. I smile and nod in agreement because I understand exactly what she means.
But I didn’t always feel this way. We’ve all been there…
You’re tired - but not just “I need more sleep” tired.
You can’t make it between meals without needing a “pick me up” snack.
You feel sluggish and bloated after eating.
You try to reset. Eat “better.” Do better. But nothing works.
I was there. And can totally relate to wondering why my body felt off despite trying to do “everything right”. I put it down to being busy, to raising children, ageing, my autoimmune condition and the mental load of juggling “all the things”. Right?
Wrong!
With my background in nutrition science and healthcare I knew there had to be more I could do. I didn’t want to feel this way and I held the belief that it was within my control. So I started searching, reading and diving deep into the scientific literature where I found the answer ‘hidden’ in plain view. Paper after paper after paper. I wasn’t expecting to uncover the overwhelming evidence to support plant-based diets as optimal for human health. I didn’t need anyone to convince me. I knew I had to try it because I had nothing to lose.
I couldn’t believe how quickly my body responded. I was also one of the fortunate people to see a dramatic improvement in my gastrointestinal condition. I remember my gastroenterologist saying to me, “What have you done?! I’ve never seen you like this!”.
I felt proud because I knew the answer was in my nutrition.
And now it’s my mission to help more and more women discover the benefits of plant-based living. Not because it’s a trend, but because it works! Many women find their bodies respond differently when they start choosing more whole, plant-based foods. And once you’ve felt it, you don’t want to go back.
Here are 5 reasons why you will thrive eating a plant-rich diet :
1. More Energy
Instead of pushing through the day on caffeine, high energy snacks, and that end-of-day glass of wine, your energy starts to feel more steady and more reliable. Whole plant foods are naturally rich in fibre and naturally low in refined sugar which supports stable blood sugar levels. And when your blood sugar is more stable, your energy follows. It’s a quiet, consistent kind of energy. You stop thinking about food all day. You just… get on with your life.
2. Your Hormones Feel Less Like a Rollercoaster and More Like a Rhythm
When your hormones are out of balance, you feel it in your mood, your cravings, your sleep and sometimes in ways that are hard to explain.
Many women notice that when they begin eating more whole, plant-based foods, things start to feel less extreme. I used to describe it as going from riding a big, unpredictable rollercoaster to riding the tide, gently going in and out.
When you consistently support your body with nutrient-dense foods, while gradually reducing those that may contribute to endocrine disruption and inflammation, things often begin to feel more stable and predictable. And more like you.
3. Easier Weight Management
There’s a difference between feeling satisfied when you eat and the physical feeling of “full”.
That heavy, sluggish, overly full feeling after meals is something many women don’t realise they’ve normalised - until one day, it’s just not there anymore.
Whole food plant-based meals are high in fibre and water content, which helps you feel satisfied while naturally supporting portion awareness. Because our bodies evolved eating whole plant foods, our biology evolved to regulate our intake in response to fibre. You feel hungry when you should. Full when you should. Satisfied after eating instead of searching for something else.
It’s a subtle shift, but a powerful one. And with that comes something many women don’t realise they’ve lost: trust.
Trust in your hunger.
Trust in your signals.
Trust in your body.
4. Skin That Looks as Good as You Feel
Our skin reflects what’s happening inside our body. When your body feels supported, it glows!
Many women notice their skin beginning to look clearer, calmer, and more youthful when they shift to a whole food plant-based diet. And no wonder, as plants are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and healthy fats and low in saturated fat, refined sugar & pro-oxidant compounds.
For me, it’s not about flawless skin but that moment when someone says, “You look really well!”.
5. Better Digestion
Bloating, discomfort, irregularity - these have become so common in society that many women assume they’re just part of everyday life. But they’re often a symptom or sign that your body needs more support.
When you begin eating more plant foods, digestion often becomes more regular and consistent. More dietary fibre from a wide variety of plant foods gives our microbiome it’s healthy ‘signature’, reduces colonic inflammation and the absorption of environmental toxins.
The Bottom Line
It’s not about perfection. And it’s not even about labelling your diet.
It’s about noticing how your body responds when you start giving it more of what it naturally works well with.
For many women, transitioning to a plant-based diet isn’t a dramatic overhaul - it’s a gradual shift that leads to feeling more like themselves again.
You don’t need to do everything perfectly - it’s just about having simple, supportive habits you can come back to each day.
And often, that’s where everything begins to change.
